We were talking about aromatherapy last time and this time I want to share another thought with you but still on the same subject.
It's not necessary to combine reflexology with anything but it's nicer to make the room in which it's performed as pleasant and relaxing as possible. Also I found that several of my clients like and use aromatherapy products, however you should only use what the client likes and approves since there are many people (my husband included) who are sensitive to odours.
One useful way to get the scent into the room is to use a reed diffuser. These are made, as you may guess, from reeds and not from bamboo or any other material. Now, a natural reed will allow the oils to rise by capillary action inside the reed, in the way that sap rises in a plant. When the oil reaches the top of the reed it has no where else to go and so diffuses (hence the name) into the room.
There is some suggestion that you need to use special thin oils to ensure that the oil rises successfully although I am not sure if this is absolutely necessary.
One big advantage of diffusers is that you don't have to light them and so they don't generate soot or smoke. Another is they are not hot and therefore don't create a fire hazard and won't burn your fingers.
I am new to using diffusers and would welcome any information or experience that you may have so, if you use diffusers in your work, please let me know how you get on.
